Eyebrow Tint Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours
By Bay Salon & Boutique | July 13, 2026
Eyebrow Tint starting at $22 at our Minnetonka salon in the Ridgedale area.

The single biggest rule for eyebrow tint aftercare is simple: keep your brows completely dry and product-free for the first 24 to 48 hours. In Minnetonka, that includes skipping steamy showers, sweaty workouts, and the “quick dip” that turns into a full Lake Minnetonka afternoon. Give the tint time to fully set into the hair, and you’ll get a smoother fade and better staying power.
If you’re fitting your appointment in around Ridgedale Center errands or an I-394 commute, this post keeps it straightforward so you don’t have to overthink your next two days.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep tint on your brows, not in your cleanser
Right after your Eyebrow Tint, we generally recommend treating your brows like fresh color. No water. No steam. No sweat-soaked forehead towel. The goal is to avoid anything that lifts pigment before it has a chance to settle.
Quick rules that matter most: Keep brows dry for 24 to 48 hours. Skip steam (hot yoga, sauna, long hot showers), swimming, and heavy sweating.
Face washing without messing up your tint
You can still wash the rest of your face, just be picky about how. Use a gentle, water-based cleanser and work around the brow area. Rinse carefully, then blot around your brows instead of rubbing. And don’t exfoliate your brows for at least 48 hours. Scrubs, acids, and cleansing brushes tend to fade tint fast.
Sweat, gym time, and “I’ll be fine” cardio
If you can, wait a full day before a hard workout. If you absolutely have to train, keep it light and keep a clean towel handy to dab sweat above the brows. Avoid wiping across the brow hairs.
Days 3 to 7: when the color settles and your routine can come back
After 48 hours, you can go back to gentle cleansing and normal showers. The tint often looks a touch deeper at first, then softens over the next week as your brows and skin do their thing. That’s normal. Try not to judge your final shade on day one.
Still, a few habits will fade your tint faster, especially in summer. Minnetonka sun plus lake days are a combo we love, but chlorine and frequent swimming can shorten wear. If you know you’re swimming all weekend, plan your tint at least 48 hours before you get in the water.
Hold off on brow waxing or tweezing: we usually suggest waiting 48 to 72 hours so the color has time to settle and your skin isn’t extra reactive.
If you’re heading in from Wayzata, Hopkins, St Louis Park, Golden Valley, or Eden Prairie for a quick appointment, give yourself a little buffer afterward. Rushing straight into a sweaty errand run is the fastest way to undo a fresh tint.
Oil-based removers and brow oils: the 3 to 5 day “no thanks” list
If there’s one product category that tends to steal longevity, it’s oil. For the first 3 to 5 days, keep oil-based cleansers, makeup removers, and brow oils away from the tinted area. Oils break down pigment and can make your tint fade patchy, especially if you rub to remove makeup.
Use this instead
Water-based cleanser, lukewarm water, and a soft towel to blot. Keep pressure light around the brows.
Pause these for a few days
Oil cleansers, balm removers, micellar formulas that leave an oily slip, heavy face oils that migrate into the brow area.
And one small habit that helps: if you use skincare with active ingredients, keep it off the brow area for the first couple of days. Brow hair is fine. It doesn’t need a chemical exfoliation.
If something feels off, talk to us. We’re big on details.
A little “fresh tint” feeling is normal. Mild skin staining around the brows can happen and usually fades quickly. The tint itself also tends to soften over the first week, so don’t panic if day two looks different than day one.
But if you’re seeing irritation, swelling, or anything that worries you, let us know. We’ll talk it through and help you decide what to do next. Our team is known for listening and being careful with the small stuff, and that matters with any service that sits on the face.

Fast answers: eyebrow tint aftercare questions we hear every week
How long should I keep my brows dry after an eyebrow tint?
Aim for 24 to 48 hours. That means no washing the brow area, no steam, and no situations where your brows get soaked. If you accidentally splash them, blot gently and try not to rub.
Can I exercise or go to the gym after an eyebrow tint?
We generally recommend waiting at least 24 hours before a sweaty workout. Sweat and repeated wiping across the brow hairs can fade tint early. If you have to work out, keep it light and dab sweat instead of wiping.
When can I apply makeup or concealer over tinted brows?
After 24 to 48 hours, you can apply makeup again. Keep removers gentle and avoid oil-based products for a few extra days so you don’t pull the tint out of the brow hairs.
Can I swim in Lake Minnetonka or a pool after getting my brows tinted?
Hold off for 48 hours. Swimming too soon is one of the quickest ways to shorten the life of a tint. If you’ve got a lake weekend planned, schedule your appointment so you have a full two-day buffer.
How long does an eyebrow tint usually last and when should I book a touch-up?
Most people see about 2 to 6 weeks of wear. Oily skin, exfoliating products, and lots of swimming usually fade tint faster. If you like your brows consistently defined, plan a touch-up based on how you fade, often every 3 to 5 weeks.
